With every stage of the international volunteer programme, we receive at least 4 volunteers who come to Hue to dedicate their time to improve and enhance the lives of the less advantaged. This programme has been running since 2008 and we have successfully collaborated with many local and international organisations to get our volunteers to the places where they are needed most. However, all this could not have been done without our local Vietnamese volunteers.
Our Vietnamese volunteers accompany our international English-teaching volunteers to placement sites- especially the children's shelters- and assist them with the lessons and activities. Over the last few years, they have proved to be of great help and their value in the classrooms and activities cannot be understated. They have also played a crucial role outside of work- in introducing our international volunteers to aspects of Hue that they ordinarily would never have discovered. However, it is important to note that our international volunteers primarily come to Hue to teach English to less advantaged people and so our Vietnamese volunteers should only assist in their teaching, and we do not expect them to take on any full teaching responsibilities.
Vietnamese volunteers are only expected to work with the international volunteers over the duration of their stay in Hue i.e. 3 months. However, if they want to and if we are happy with their work, they can extend their time as a volunteer and work with the volunteers from the following stage.
What are you expected to do as a volunteer?
- Assist English teaching volunteers in their English lessons.
- Assist volunteers in any games, activities and any kind of interaction between student and teacher.
- Translate and interpret, if necessary, between English and Vietnamese for volunteer teachers.
Of course, considering the nature of the work as a volunteer teacher, there may be other things for which volunteers will need your assistance.
Eligibility
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- It is not required to have experience of working with children, but it is highly recommended.
- Volunteers should have a high level of spoken English.
- Volunteers should have a flexible timetable, as teaching placements may take place at various times during the week.
How can I apply?
We are no longer looking for any more volunteers at this moment in time, but keep visiting this site and we will let you know when you can apply for a volunteer position. You can also 'like' our Facebook page to keep updated.
Assisting Group Projects
Throughout the year Hue Help manages large groups from overseas who come to Hue to work on construction projects.
In March and April 2012, a group of thirty students and two teachers from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singaporea will be coming to work on a Courtyard construction project in Tay Xuan Kindergarten, 12km from the centre of Hue. Hue Help requires three or four committed and enthusiastic Vietnamese volunteer to help them while they are here.
These volunteers will have to be avaliable from the 26th March until the 4th April, and will be required to teach some Vietnamese to the Singaporeans, as well as translating for the group when they work in the kindergarten.
If you feel that you have the skills to work with us on this important group project, please conatct us at volunteeer@huehelp.org.
